Fort Worth, Texas - Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association has sent a letter to Texas members of the U.S. House of Representatives urging them to vote against the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 (H.R. 2454) Friday, June 26 in Washington, D.C.
"We are very concerned about the increase costs of fuel, electricity, feed, fertilizer, equipment and other production costs necessary to maintain a successful ranching operation should this bill become law," TSCRA President Dave Scott, a rancher from Richmond, Texas, said.
"Texas ranchers take great pride in being responsible stewards of the land. While this legislation attempts to assist with those efforts, the costs far outweigh the benefits," Scott added.
"TSCRA greatly appreciates the recent efforts by the U.S. House Agriculture Committee, but respectfully cannot support any legislation which would push more family ranches in Texas out of business," said Scott.
