Marketing Committee
8:00 AM – 9:00 AM
Speaker: Paul Colman, Chair, NCBA Live Cattle Marketing Committee
In November 2010, Eastern Livestock began to unravel, leaving behind more than $130 million in unfunded checks, missing cattle, and broken cattlemen. Nearly a year later, the marketing committee will hear how this happened, what has been learned from the Eastern Livestock fraud, and how to prevent similar situations in the future. The committee will also hear an update on the discontinuation of TDA Market reports.
Agricultural Research Committee
9:15 AM – 10:15 AM
Speaker: Dr. Tiffanie Brooks, DVM, University Veterinarian and Instructor, Texas Tech University Center for Biodefense, Law and Public Policy
Is the threat of a Bioterrorism Attack real for Texas cattlemen? You bet it is! Since that terrible day in 2001, our livestock industry has increased its efforts to prevent such an event. Terrorists recognize that an attack on our livestock industry would send shockwaves of fear and economic loss across all Americans. Dr. Brooks will go in depth on how to recognize a biological terrorist attack in cattle, how to manage its effects and also how to prevent your cattle operation from experiencing such a disaster. This meeting will also feature a discussion on the Texas AgriLife Extension Service Issue Identification Report to provide TSCRA's feedback on the report.
Legislative and Tax Committee
9:15 AM –10:15 AM
The debt ceiling/debt reduction debate occupied the news cycle for weeks this summer. The outcome was a compromise composed of raising the debt ceiling and putting forth billions in spending cuts. So what does this mean for everyday Americans? During the Legislative and Tax breakout session, we will discuss how this deal will affect ranchers at home and what this means for the future of our economy.
Wildlife Committee
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Now a lizard, next a prairie chicken, then a butterfly. The federal government wants to expand its control over your land by listing more species as endangered and thus protect them by federal law. Come participate in an important policy discussion on TSCRA's role in this important issue.
Association Promotion Committee
12:00 noon – 1:30 PM (to be held during luncheon)
As a leader in the association, have you ever thought about the little things you can do to help promote the association? Come learn what tools are available to help association leaders retain and recruit new members. It's fast, simple, and helps ensure your association stays strong.
Joint Animal Health and Brand and Inspection Committee Meeting
1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Speaker: Dr. Dee Ellis, state veterinarian and executive director, Texas Animal Health Commission, and Leann Saunders, president, IMI Global
