Suspects arrested in North Texas-Southern Oklahoma theft ring
Thanks to a crucial tip from an observant citizen, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Special Ranger Scott Williamson was able to work with the Jackson County (Okla.) and Harmon County (Okla.) sheriff's offices and the Texas Department of Public Safety to make two arrests this week in a theft case spanning three counties and two states. more
 

Returning industry leader to speak at Tyler meeting -- twice
TSCRA members and guests will have two chances to hear Burton Eller Jr., speak about the changes ahead for this country. Eller, head of National Cattlemen's Beef Association Washington, D.C., office is the featured speaker at the TSCRA Legislative and Tax Committee and will speak at the closing board meeting, Sept. 21 and 22, Tyler. more

 

USDA chief says more ethanol-subsidy cuts needed
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer recently criticized U.S. ethanol producers for depending too heavily on government subsidies and said reductions in government support were needed. Schafer said the ethanol industry must eventually become commercially self-sustaining. more
 

'Brush Sculpting' is subject of two-day October workshop
Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct the workshop, "Brush Sculpting...A Decade Later,"on Oct. 23-24.
The first day's activities will run from 8:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Scurry County Coliseum in Snyder. The second day's events will be at the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch at Roby. The purpose of the workshop is to review the evolution of Brush Sculpting and to look at and evaluate the many methods now used in the practice on Texas rangelands. more
