TSCRA Daily News Update, July 1, 2008
TSCRA joins other livestock groups to support availability and proper use of livestock medications TSCRA joined six other livestock producer organizations in Texas in support of the current Animal Drug User Fee Act (ADUFA) law, which expires Sept. 30, 2008. In a letter sent June 30 to Reps. John D. Dingell and Joe Barton, the chairman and ranking member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, respectively, TSCRA's leadership opposed legislative changes to the law, "such as efforts to ban certain food animal antibiotics. A top priority for all livestock producers is the health and well-being of our animals." "Antibiotics and antimicrobials are an important and necessary tool in protecting animal health and well-being," the letter states. "Efforts to ban the use of certain antibiotics or antimicrobials must be based on sound science and include thorough risk assessment analyses. If not, it could be very harmful to both human and animal health." To read the letter, click here: more.
