AMS live cattle grading demonstration set for Sept. 18 in Amarillo

The Livestock and Grain Market News branch of the USDA Agriculture Marketing Service (AMS) is conducting a cattle grading demonstration on Thursday, Sept. 18. hosted by Amarillo Livestock Auction, located at 100 S. Manhattan St., Amarillo, Texas. The workshop will start at 9:00 am and conclude by noon

USDA-AMS personnel will explain the official grade standards for cattle and will apply those grades to live animals at the workshop. Also, details of new requirements and procedures beginning Oct. 1, 2008, to deliver cattle for the CME Live Cattle futures contract will also be covered.

Participants will get a chance to apply the USDA grades to both group and individual cattle.
