Texas Beef Quality Producer program update Beef producers can get free training to help them become more competitive by attending the Texas Beef Quality Producer program in Amarillo, Monday, Aug. 25. The Texas Beef Quality Producer program teaches the principles of Beef Quality Assurance, a proven system of sensible management practices that help improve the quality and safety of beef, said Jon Means, president of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. "In addition, the program updates ranchers on changes occurring in the industry and what we must do to increase demand for our cattle. It clearly demonstrates how a producer's actions on the ranch have a huge impact on the final beef product," Means said. Prior Beef Quality Producer program certification is not required to participate — all beef cattle producers are invited. Four Beef Quality Assurance credit hours will be offered. Topics covered will include the Texas Beef Quality Producer program Green Tag program, ranch biosecurity, rangeland health, cowherd genetics, optimizing nutrition, herd health and the 2008 Cull Cow Audit. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The program begins at 9 a.m. and will conclude about 2:00 p.m. The program will be held at the Texas AgriLife Research and Extension Center, 6500 West Amarillo Blvd, Amarillo, TX. To RSVP, contact Stacy Fox at sfox@texascattleraisers.org or 800/242-7820. Visit www.texasbeefquality.com for additional information. The Texas Beef Quality Producer program is a collaborative effort of Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Texas Beef Council and Texas AgriLife Extension. Funding is provided by TSCRA, checkoff dollars from TBC and generous sponsorships from Cargill Cattle Feeders and Pfizer Animal Health.
