Trans-Texas Corridor town hall meetings
begin Jan. 15
Town
hall meetings have been scheduled by the Texas Department of
Transportation to discuss the Trans-Texas Corridor.
The
meetings will allow attendees to discuss the corridor and its impact
to Texas with TxDOT officials.
Each
town hall meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., but registration begins
at 5:30 p.m.

National agricultural
biosecurity institute opens at OSU
The National Institute for Microbial Forensics and Food and
Agricultural Biosecurity, headquartered at Oklahoma State
University, will support national and regional biosecurity and law
enforcement communities, as well as the U.S. agricultural industry,
by identifying, prioritizing and addressing issues of crop and food
biosecurity.

Will 2007 cattle
price volatility continue in 2008?
Each
market class of cattle has unique fundamental factors that will
affect the price level and the degree of volatility. A major factor
that will continue to affect calf and yearling prices is the price
of corn.

Australia's feedlot cattle numbers decline further
Continuing unfavorable market conditions have led to a further 14
percent reduction in cattle numbers on feed since the previous
quarter results, according to the December ALFA/MLA quarterly
survey. "The collective impacts of high grain prices, strong feeder
cattle prices and a persistently high Australian dollar were
continuing to ensure lot feeder margins were low or non-existent..."

Central Texas Beef Cattle Meeting set for Jan. 22
The Texas
AgriLife Extension Service (formerly known as the Texas Cooperative
Extension Service) has scheduled their Central Texas Beef Cattle
Meeting for Jan. 22, 2008, to be held at the Hood Country Reunion
Fairgrounds, 701 Reunion Court, in Granbury, Texas. Registration
begins at 5:30 p.m., and a meal will be served at 6 p.m., to be
followed by a program that will last approximately two hours.
